Community relations activity
An organization can involve itself in many ways. These are typical:
- Amateur media support
- Exhibitions
- Secondment of staff
- Educational support
- Community affairs
- Sponsorship
- Direct participation
- Self-publicity

Crisis is A time of danger. Or the situation that presents danger or a threat

Contingency planning is preparing for a forecast planning

How to deal with a situation?
- identify the problem
- think through a range of possible responses
- select one
- assemble the needed resources
- check that they all work
- start to deal with the problem

“What if” planning help to identifying possible futures
The intention of the Manager is to:
- maximize the probability of achieving the strategies
- minimize the probability of failure
- prepare specific contingency plans for the most likely events & situations

To be successful, managers must:
- identify what could happen
- quantify and evaluate each alternative
- make plans to deal with the most likely future events


Quantification.. Each scenario must be quantified, so that:
- the potential profit or loss it understood
- the probability of it occurring is known

Potential profit or loss of each scenario must be calculated. It’s good discipline to base costing on 3 evaluations:
- base case  d results if everything were to work perfectly, and all events were favorable
- worst case  d results if everything went wrong n all d events were unfavourable
- expectation  d results that are expected taking into account the internal factors and external event that can reasonable to be expected.

A contingency plan is a fully worked-through plan that is available for immediate use.
Contingency planning would have to include:
- objectives covering
- contact numbers
- responsibilities allocated for
- provisional arrangements including
- reference for every country/region/area in which coaches run (to include such items as: Official contacts: police, fire brigade, ambulance service)
- Media contacts, especially: wire service, eg. Reuters

Types of crisis:
a) Sabotage and outside attack  Sabotage is attack from inside organization –from a worker who has been redundant, or during dispute with management
b) Criticism and libel  the result of media exposure following an in-depth investigation by a team of journalist.
c) Public service
d) Product recall  the way to taking back the product from the market, because there’s something wrong on it

“NO COMMENT” always be a bad responses

Editorial
Editor  someone who approves the news and make decision for the news which will be publishing.
Sub-editors  sub editors’ takes submitted copy and actually edits it, and also he send it straight to the printing process.

News sources
Reporters  full time staff who are directed to gather information based on a given subject by the editor
Leader writers  often the editor, write thoughtful pieces about current events, these represent the considered view of the media and taken very seriously by all who read them.

Special correspondents  Specialist in a particular subject, lives in somewhere out there, and may or may not have a by-line with the media here, so if there’s something emergency, he/she could it directly and immediately.

Investigative Journalist  A reporting or reporting team who seeking out of corruption and wrong doing.

Stringers  people in a locality often a journalist on local media act part time for a bigger media

Features writers  a subject specialist with a high reputation, but a feature can be produced by anybody in d team

Columnist  write a regular column or article with regular style and follow a regular theme and he/she has they own column and page

Contributors  those who contribute with get paid or not. It’s a term used to give a description to people who do not wit with any other classification.

News agencies  commercial organizations which specialize in the supply of news stories and features. They have their own journalist and search news in d same way as the media

Picture agencies  the agencies which specialized in photography and supply the pics for the media.

The ad dept of a newspaper or mag is usually divided into 2:
- Display  the majority of the ad in most media
- Classified  the small ads that announce births and deaths, offer personal services, goods for sale

What is news is decided by media

Media officers would be a more accurate title, because there is more top media than press.
D central focus id to secure appropriate coverage in target media, by appropriate:
- The story is accurate
- It’s fairy reported
- It appears to time
- It is well placed
